History of The Lansdowne

The Hotel came into the present family's ownership when Miss F.M. Robinson, Aunt of Mrs Margaret Lewis, purchased The Lansdowne, then with 36 letting rooms, in 1912. The Hotel prospered during the Great War (1914-1918). Miss Robinson retired in 1927, soon after having joined the partnership by her brother Mr. W.A. Robinson and by Mr. Herbert Garrat.

Pet Friendly Hotel

Pets are more than welcome at the Lansdowne Hotel so you don't need to worry about the expense of kennels or missing your beloved pooch!

We have a dedicated lounge for you and your dog so you can feel that he/she is still part of your holiday, rather than just being cooped up in your bedroom. You can also eat with you dog as we will set you up a table in a dedicated area. We put dog bowls and a goody bag for your dog on arrival in your room too! Owners are held responsible for any damage they may cause. The Charge is £20.00 per dog, per day (no food supplied).

Our location is perfect for dog walking, as we are directly opposite the seafront with a lovely walk up to Holywell for a cup of tea and cake, or for breath-taking views from Holywell up onto the top of Beachy Head. Other incredible long dog walking areas include Seven Sisters, Cuckmere, Pevensey Castle, Bluebell Walk and Abbots Wood. If you only require shorter walks for your Pooch there are many local parks like Princes Park and Hampden Park which are perfect.

Dogs can be added to online reservations once the date and bedroom is selected.

Beach Restrictions

Between 1st May and 30th September, dogs must be kept on leads and are not permitted on the beach between the Wish Tower and Pier during these times.

If you are visiting the far East side of the seafront in July, Eastbourne Extreme will take over this section for a full weekend of extreme sports and water sports.

Eastbourne Parking Controls

Street parking bays in Zone H are located directly opposite the hotel and are free from 1st November to 31st March. Daily permits are available outside of these dates from Reception and are priced at £2.20.

Parking is also available free behind the hotel on Compton Street, with paid-for metered parking available year-round on the side streets adjacent to the hotel.

Blue badge holders may park in any pay and display areas and may use the dedicated disabled parking pays directly opposite the hotel entrance.
